As per the reports in 2005, just 1% of the Indian population was consuming organic food produced in India, the reason being the organic products were too expensive for the average middle class, cost being as high as 30% more than non-organic food.

The high prices of the organic products were chiefly due to the process of becoming a certified organic farms. The land which has been intensively farmed in conventional ways itself takes many years to convert to organic resulting in high cost of organic produce. Hence in organic farming more human labour is required in order to provide soil with the care of cultivation it needs to produce quality organic produce. All these factors results in high rates of the organic products.

Since there is a high demand for these products in the international markets the exporters are also not willing to bring down the prices for the Indian consumers. However, as organic farming will expand in India and will become established, the prices will come down and many more Indians will be able to afford organic food and reap the benefits.
In India there are over 15,000 certified organic farms and the number is growing fast. Apart from this there are many small farmers growing organic food by using the organic practices.

With the domestic demand increasing from Indian consumers for organic food we can see more and more number of retail chain stores and markets selling both certified organic food and also the uncertified foods claiming to be organic. For exporting the organic products, the foods must be certified, but in India there are no laws as of now to control selling of natural or organic foods.
There is a general lack awareness and knowledge among the people in our country that has resulted in the confusion regarding the difference between natural and organic foods sold here. The situation has also aggravated due to the absence of an organized system that can regulate the sale of organic products. However, the markets selling organic products have become very common in India now. This is helping the community members to find foods that are truly organic.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) announced the introduction of Mobile Number Portability (MNP). Very soon MNP will come into play in the entire country. According to Mobile Number Portability (MNP), the subscribers of mobile services in India can now change their service providers while retaining the same mobile number. The fee for changing the operator should not be more than Rs 19 Mobile Number Portability (MNP) also offers the consumers to switch from GSM to CDMA or vice-versa, or within GSM and CDMA opetaors. The number can be retained in any case.

However, to begin with, you will be able to switch operators and retain the number only within the same telecom circle. For example if you are in Delhi you can change operators within Delhi and not when you move from Delhi to Mumbai.

How to change mobile operator under MNP

Before applying for the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) the subscribers must ensure that the entire amount of bill has been paid. The porting fee is to be paid to the new operator you are switching to. You need not to pay any fee to the operator you are leaving. According to TRAI the porting between mobile operators should be accomplished within 4 days.

There are few conditions though. You are not allowed to switch operator and retain the number if you have been with that operator for less than 3 months. Prepaid consumers should remember that when they switch operator their balance talk time will disappear. As per the TRAI guidelines the maximum downtime between deactivating the existing connection and starting the new connection will be a maximum of 2 hours.
